Trying to change too quickly can often lead to a “rebound effect,” making it difficult to stick with it long-term. If you’re not used to drinking water in the morning and currently start your day with something else, here’s a simple, step-by-step guide to help you incorporate warm lemon water into your routine.

Start Your Day a Little Earlier: If your body is accustomed to having coffee or tea at 7:00 a.m., try waking up just 15 minutes earlier. Use this time to prepare and drink your warm lemon water before you have your usual beverage.

Begin with a Minimal Amount: Start with just 150 to 200 ml of warm water. Your system might not be ready for a large quantity first thing in the morning, and starting small allows your body to adjust. You can gradually increase the amount over time.

Ease into the Lemon: Start by squeezing just a couple of drops of lemon into your water. This allows your taste buds and digestive system to adapt. Over a few weeks, you can slowly increase the amount until you’re using about half a slice.

Find the Right Temperature: The water should be soothing to drink, not too hot or too cold. It should be comfortable to hold in your hands and sip without burning your mouth.

Spice It Up: If you don’t enjoy the taste of plain lemon water, feel free to add other ingredients. A dash of honey, cardamom, ginger, or cinnamon can make it more palatable and add extra health benefits.

Note: If you are aiming for weight loss or have diabetes, it’s best to avoid adding honey.

My Favorite Recipe:

Here’s a simple, delicious recipe to get you started:

Bring a pot of water to a boil.

Add one cardamom pod, a small slice of ginger, two black peppercorns, and one tulsi leaf.

Cover the pot with a lid and let it sit for five to ten minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.

Once the temperature has cooled to a warm, comfortable level, squeeze in half a slice of fresh lemon.

Stir in a teaspoon of honey (optional, but delicious!).

And just like that, your healthy and tasty elixir is ready. Feel free to adjust these ingredients to create your own perfect blend. Try it, and I’m sure you won’t regret it.

Developing a new healthy habit should be a gradual process.
