PEE check 2: Check your urine health

In a previous blog, I discussed the urinary tract system. Now, I will share some points to check your urine health.

Color of Urine:

  •  It should be pale yellow.
  • Dark yellow urine suggests you are not taking adequate water.
  • Cloudy white urine is suggestive of infection.
  • Red color urine is suggestive of blood in urine, which may be due to underlying disease Like cancer and stones.
  • The color of urine may be changed due to some medications like multivitamins

Smell in urine:

  • There should be no unpleasant smell in urine.
  • Any smell in urine may be suggestive of underlying infection or some medications or diseases like diabetes.

Quantity of urine:

  • A healthy adult should be passing approximately 800 ml to 2500 ml urine depending upon age, weight and habits of water intake.
  • Lesser volume or decreased volume in comparison to previous may indicates underlying kidney diseases.
  • Larger volume may indicate excessive fluid intake, underlying diseases eg diabetes and/or some side effects of medications eg. diuretics.

Facial or lower limb swelling:

  • Swelling associated with decreased urine output is indicative of kidney disorders.

Tiredness:

  • Your hemoglobin level may be low due to kidney disorders.

If you have any of these symptoms, you should visit a doctor for early diagnosis and treatment for kidney disorders.
