Why do you fail to develop good habits?

At the onset of every new year, you usually make a few resolutions like doing regular exercise, eating healthy, limiting screen time and many more to count. You will get a gym membership, new shoes to run and/or stuffing your kitchen with healthy foods. But, have you ever noticed that after a few days of motivation you will find it difficult to maintain these good habits. Have you ever tried to find out the cause?

Let’s find out.

The reason is motivation like a knee jerk reaction where you suddenly want to change all of your bad habits to good habits. You will start going to the gym, eating healthy and avoiding unhealthy options. But, once the motivation diminishes, you will not feel like continuing these habits and will shift back to previous ones accustomed to your body..

So, the key is to not fight on all fronts but to work on developing one good habit at a time gradually. Like start with going to the gym and/or running and focus on this activity only. Increase intensity of exercise gradually so your body will get adjusted to it slowly. Once you are habitual with exercise, start focusing on healthy food. But, don’t replace all of your meals with healthier options. The best option is to go slow and replace your meals one by one with healthier options. Start eating healthy breakfast, after that focus on lunch and dinner. So, you will find out that working on one good habit at a time will give you satisfaction and consistent results.

So, the key is to go slow and steady to win the one front first to conquer the fortress.
