The urinary tract system is an important organ system to maintain balance of water, salts and minerals in your body. It also flushes out toxins/waste from your body and serves other functions like maintaining blood pressure, helping in making blood and maintaining bone health. The urinary tract system involves kidney, Ureter, Bladder and urethra. The kidney makes urine and ureter is a pipe-like structure transporting urine from kidney to bladder. The urinary bladder works like a reservoir to store urine and by urethra we are passing urine from bladder to outside. The urethra is shorter in females.
The common disease of urinary tract system include stone, infection and cancers
Kidney diseases: The kidney diseases may lead to decreased urine production, blood pressure irregularities, blood in urine, interference with blood production and poor bone health.
Diseases involving ureter: These will affect transportation of urine from kidney to bladder and back pressure changes in kidney.
Bladder disease: The storage function will be affected.
Urethral disease: It will affect passing of urine from bladder to outside.
Next time, I will be writing about common symptoms of common urological disorders.
